Driveway & Garden Renovation, Elegant Driveway & Front garden, Edinburgh

Patio· Driveway Installation · Planting Design

Joyce and David were looking to make better use of the driveway that they had inherited when they bought their beautiful traditional home and to inject a design element to the space. Lisa proposed keeping the gravel finish but reducing it’s vast expanse and making it more practical by installing a CedaDrive gravel stabilisation system to hold the gravel in place. We broke up the expanse of gravel by adding in subtle detail with the rings of cobbles inset into the space.

This elegant home deserved a grand entrance from the pedestrian gate - so that’s what we gave it! A beautiful sandstone path with an inset circle opening up mid-way to add interest. We added lawn to soften the front garden and give grandure to the space.

The formal low-level hedge with herbaceous planting finishes the whole thing off - the garden very much looks like it belongs to the house, which was exactly our intention!

We re-designed the rear garden adding in a dining patio area which spills out from their lovely kitchen and dining room, keeping with the circular theme brought round from the front. Joyce had loads on pots and we placed them out in groups on the terrace. Some of her plants were incorporated into the planter areas and lots more were added.

It was really important to us to keep the materials relevant to the house to enhance rather than dominate and we did this by using Sandstone paving, Flint Gravel set into CedaDrive and reclaimed cobble edgings/detailing to pull everything together.

It was a joy to work with Joyce and David on this project, and you can see from the bubbly and thank you card above that they were happy with the end result too!
